As enterprise connectivity and collaboration become more prominent themes across the CX space, the demand for such solutions is growing.
After all, business intelligence and analytics solutions not only reveal hidden insights across the enterprise, but also help create a unified view of CX. Thus, they made it possible for each department to sing from the same hymn sheet.
However, there are many more aspects of the system provided by suppliers in the magic quadrant. To address this, here’s how Gartner defines the solution.

According to Gartner, business intelligence and analytics (ABI) systems enable less technical CX team members to “analyze, explore, share, and manage data”. The system also enables users to uncover and visualize insights while providing a foundation for cross-functional collaboration.
AI enables most of these functions in modern systems, making information relevant to users and their workflows, and easily accessible.
However, there are many more important capabilities to consider before investing in an ABI system. Gartner highlights the following 12 as prime examples:

This capability is an essential source of differentiation between the propositions of the twenty providers below. By carefully assessing each one, Gartner has separated each supplier into four categories: leaders, challengers, visionaries and niche players.
2023 Business Intelligence and Analytics Magic Quadrant Platform Leader
Demonstrating advanced knowledge of critical ABI capabilities, alongside a commitment to client success, leaders in the magic quadrant pair a strong vision with a track record of delivering value. They not only offer this proof of value, but also enable incremental purchasing and enterprise scalability to meet the specific needs of enterprises in many sectors. This year’s leaders are:
Achieving massive market reach and energy, Gartner credits Microsoft Energy BI offerings for its alignment with Workplace 365, Groups, and Azure Synapse. Such a broad portfolio – which includes aesthetic-based data discovery, additional analytics, and interactive dashboards – demonstrates a comprehensive vision and ambition. Along with this, market analysts also highlight the price and value of Microsoft solutions as a significant differentiator.
2. Sales Force (Tableau)
After acquiring Tableau in 2019, Salesforce cemented its position as a leader in the ABI space. This acquisition allows Salesforce to build an ecosystem that takes advantage of all the benefits of MuleSoft, Tableau and Tableau CRM. In the report, Gartner commends Salesforce for this, in addition to its ease of use and economics of analytics, enabling users to more easily “access, prepare, analyze, and present findings in their data”.
2021 was a big year for Qlik, acquiring NodeGraph and Huge Squid to add further capabilities to its broad portfolio. Gartner praised these additions, pointing out Qlik Feeling’s new machine learning and metadata management features as a distinct strength. Other things noted by market analysts include the implementation flexibility offered by suppliers, as well as its customer engagement and data literacy courses.

Google.com has made impressive inroads into the ABI space since acquiring Looker in 2019. Integrating its ABI system into the Google.com Shadow System (GCP) ecosystem, Gartner credits Google.com with the opportunity to combine its strengths with other capabilities in the cloud stack. -his. Architecture and governance in the manner of data – in addition to application development resources – are also important strengths. However, market analysts warn that SQL skills are required for advanced users.
According to Gartner, Domo has achieved significant energy in a compact space. It notes the provider’s rapid pace of deployment and intense consumer design focus as substantial reasons for this, as companies want to take advantage of the low code/no code revolution that is impacting enterprise technology choices. However, Gartner hinted that the company was lagging behind market leaders due to a lack of channels for the broader application ecosystem.

Offering a distinct and powerful vision for contemporary ABI systems, visionaries in the magic quadrant deliver high functionality in their specialist areas. Unfortunately, despite this thought leadership, they sometimes lack the broader capabilities to run ABI solutions at scale and consistently. This year’s visionaries are:
1. Mind Point
Introducing a new “developer playground” in 2021, Thoughtspot offers companies tools to build innovative data applications. This is just one example of how the company is realizing its consumer-centric vision, which Gartner received significant praise for in the report. Another strength noted is scalability and market recognition as an add-on analytics system. As such, the research firm warns that Thoughtspot lacks the broader data and analytics ecosystem.
2. Indra Keenam
After recently renaming its ABI offering to Sisense Combination, Sisense has expanded on its vision – which garnered praise from Gartner.
Such a vision relies on a supplier microservices-based architecture, which is fully extensible. The development of a unique “multipersona system” is also a significant strength. However, market analysts are pushing Sisense to build in more sectors – besides manufacturing – which sets it apart from leaders like Microsoft and Tableau.
3. Fortune teller
Adding Shadow Trainer and Code Innovate to Oracle Analytics Shadow (OAC), Oracle has worked hard to maximize the effectiveness of its platform to pave the way for co-innovation with clients.
Such tools enable consumer-focused product vision – for which Oracle received special recognition in the report.
Its additional analytical capabilities across its cloud offering also sets the solution apart. However, Gartner highlights its momentum in a busy market as a concern.
In 2021, SAP is prioritizing increasing the ease with which users can use the SAP Analytics Shadow ABI solution. Thus, it simplifies the experience of users who switch to Shadow Warehouse Information. Its success may prove to be with Gartner praising the company for its “unparalleled” connectivity, in addition to enhanced capabilities and closed loophole analytics. However, the research firm warns that adoption of SAP Analytics Shadow is low among companies that do not utilize SAP solutions elsewhere in the company.
5. TIBCO Software
Building on machine learning and data democratization features, advanced data preparation, and predictive modeling have been significant strengths of TIBCO Software. Gartner noted this while commending the supplier on the flexibility of shadow, enterprise readiness, and roadmap for information and analytics convergence. Unfortunately, TIBCO Software may lag behind market leaders in product gaps, such as the lack of ability to generate automated data stories from automated insights.
Launching SAS Viya 4 in 2021, SAS received special recognition from Gartner for its “market-leading” data visualization. Market analysts also note that the provider offers “compelling product vision” to prepare and aesthetically analyze data, as well as build, operate, and manage AI-powered data science designs. However, Gartner questioned the limited adoption of the SAS solution and its bundled pricing design.
Another household name making waves in the ABI space is IBM, earning praise for its breadth of use cases, flexible deployment options, and roadmap for implementing analytics elsewhere in the enterprise. The latter is particularly attractive because the provider unifies resource planning, reporting, and analysis at a central site. However, according to Gartner, where IBM is lagging behind is the lack of sales and pricing adoption drivers compared to its cloud competitors.
Offering a cloud-agnostic architecture, Yellowfin gains a lot of business through partnering with independent software providers looking to embed analytics across their enterprise applications. That openness – and integration with respective market leaders – is a significant strength of the system, in addition to its customer-centric vision and composition. However, its limited geographic reach and market energy appear to be holding the supplier back from a leadership position.
Empower users with “What?”, “Why?”, and “How?” questions. stylish interface, Teliuis differentiates its ABI offering. Its support for multiple personalities, time to appreciate added analytics, and the scalability of the Shadow ecosystem were praised in the report. However, market analysts pinpoint possible locations for improvement – highlighting gaps in the use of data storytelling and reporting, as well as the lack of availability of third-party resources.
Platform Analysis and Business Intelligence 2023 Magic Quadrant Specific niche market Gamers
Often achieving positive results across sectors or specific use cases, these suppliers can provide the perfect solution for companies leveraging specific shadow stacks. However, Gartner questions its ability to compete with market leaders – both in terms of innovation and performance. This year’s niche players are:
1. Amazon.com Internet Services
Recently, Amazon.com Internet Solutions (AWS) has taken a major step forward into the incremental analytics space, adding Q – a natural language query capability – to its Amazon.com QuickSight solution. The solution is closely integrated with AWS and highly scalable. However – despite its high brand familiarity – customer adoption has remained slow. Gartner highlights this while hinting that companies may have to prioritize developing business application ecosystems.
2. Alibaba Shadow
As a major player in the Australia or Europe/Pacific region, Alibaba Shadow Fast BI system is futuristic in its approach to collaborative analytics and digital workplace orientation. Composable courses on information literacy and analytic capabilities – which help automate business workflows – also won praise from Gartner. However, market analysts point to the lack of investment in BI – compared to other focuses – to be wary.
Famous for its CRM system, Zoho also boasts an ABI system – Zoho Analytics – which offers advanced data preparation, visualization, and embedded analytical capabilities. However, Gartner notes its natural language query functionality as a distinguishing strength of its offerings. However, holding back the solution was limited product vision and product gaps. Market analysts note the lack of aesthetic interactivity, such as brushing and snaring, as a significant example of the latter.
4. Analytical Pyramid
Gartner notes a large number of strengths in the Pyramid ABI solution, including broad use cases, comprehensive deployment options, and additional analytical capabilities. This final strength is largely due to enhanced automated insights and the Wise Find framework. However, the provider appears to lack a clear cross-cutting strategy, market traction, and third party resources and skills to compete with better known brands.
The Magic Quadrant report states that: “MicroStrategy excels at the scalability, manageability, and security IT demands.” Gartner notes that Setting 1 reporting and the unique Setting 2 analytics environment are significant contributing factors to this strength. Unfortunately, market analysts warn that the lack of data or the surrounding application ecosystem and feature gaps in its additional analytical capabilities is holding back the MicroStrategy ABI system.
Providing neatly packaged analytics applications across multiple systems, including NetSuite and Salesforce, Incorta excels at reducing time to insight for users. The Live Information Mapping (DDM) function paved the way, eliminating the effort associated with data extraction, transformation, and loading. However, Gartner describes the Incorta Shadow offering as “immature” while highlighting that the supplier lacks additional analytics features.
How do you think the result?
Despite the number of major brands that fall into the magic quadrant – including Google.com, AWS, and IBM – Gartner only names three market leaders: Microsoft, Salesforce (Tableau), and Qlik.
However, with lots of competition, companies can probably expect to see significant disruption across the space throughout the rest of the year.
